Laughter yoga in English Language teaching |
READ MY ARTICLE
|
Laughter Yoga is where some traditional aspects of yoga, such as breathing and stretching are combined with stimulated group laughter to create a series of movements and sounds. This is done repeatedly, a typical session lasting from 20 – 45 minutes. There are an unlimited number of laughs available, the most famous being the welcome laugh, the lion laugh, the bear laugh and the milk-shake laugh. The first Laughter club was set up on 13 March 1995 in Mumbai, India. This is a very easy date for me to remember, as it’s both my mother’s birthday and the date on which the greatest ever film director, Krzysztof Kieslowski, died.

Cultural Differences - England v Italy |

As I was born and raised in England and have since passed an enormity of years in Italy, I feel it is of my utmost duty to give my observations on some of the most fundamental differences between these two great nations. The Coffee Experience |
READ MY ARTICLE
|
This is a multi-sensorial approach to drinking coffee. As a teacher, you can use it with your students to stimulate their minds and awaken their senses. As a normal human being, you should find it an immensely gratifying experience to try out with your friends. Those of you who feel that one coffee is exactly the same as another, that one wine is pretty much the same as another and that all beers taste the same, may well be sceptical about this article. Those of you who believe that a coffee made by a different person in the same place will taste exactly the same, could well be bemused by what you are about to read. Those who believe that the pleasure of coffee exists only in the tasting of it will find sections of this article extremely frustrating. Those who dislike coffee intensely will understandably be hard pressed to read and enjoy this article.

Memory, Music and Emotion in Learning |
READ MY ARTICLE
|
Why do we remember some things so easily and not others? How much can music and emotion affect memory? My one-to-one lessons are often interrupted by “urgent” phone calls taken by my students, which may last a couple of minutes. It is amazing how often neither I, nor my student can remember what we were talking about before the interruption. How many great conversations have been ended, as a result of a phone call?

The Language of Communication |
READ MY ARTICLE
|
Research by Professor Albert Mehrabian at the University of California, shows that 55% of communication is done using body language, while 38% involves tone of voice. Only 7% is done with words. Grammar isn’t even mentioned. Yet, the vast majority of English teachers continue to spend the greater part of their lessons explaining and practising grammar forms. In classrooms all over the world, you can see students sitting on a chair for the best part of a lesson, books open, while the teacher contrives to explain a seemingly complicated grammar structure.
